Patch Design Studio is a young, multi-disciplinary design studio started in 2012 by Ipsit Patel and Rika Chaudhary. They believe that every client and program is unique and hence each project has its own different criterias. Their aim is to provide design solutions at every scale and create a space that pushes the general national boundaries of design and functionality.
Material experimentation and newer ideas help make each project so distinctive from the other. Their scope of work ranges from entertainment venues, to restaurants and retail outlets, exhibition spaces to temporary installations, from residential, commercial and institutional interiors to architectural and urban environments.
Today we speak to you about their design for Pocket Aces Pictures Pvt Ltd located at Parel, a 1500sq.ft. fun and off-beat work space for a young digital media startup. We especially loved the nails on crate wood used for the main signage. The overall client brief given did not include the usual cabins and workstations but instead a variety of fun informal workspaces. The site had the beautiful view of the western suburbs and the sea beyond. It was extremely important to create the sense of expanse when entering the space not forgetting the generous ceiling height of 13’ it gave.
A 2’ deep feature wall was created around the quiet zones. Niches were created in this wall to allow for space to work in, watch a movie, rest etc and also held large volumes of storage space. The length of this wall was coloured grey and the niches along with the upholstery were given a fun parrot green colour.
The grey stained packaging boards hold the TV and Idea Wall. This thickness of the wall also greatly helped in sound insulation. A platform above the editing room niche had space provided to rest and sleep for the long overnight working hours.
The rest of the office was left for an open format workspace along with a high community workstation. A raised stage area was made with an external glaze view which was commonly used for smaller group discussions. Couch seating were provided for the sit-down discussions.
Fun elements and the freedom to explore unconventional materials made this design even more interesting.
We love the fact how fun and informal style has been mixed with functionality and professionalism of a workspace. The colours have not been used in minimalism or excess. The areas have been well defined without too many partitions but yet have a different purpose for each space. Furniture used is crisp and not too jazzy. We love the total feel of this space!
